About Us
Background
Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI), is a charity focused on serving the community of the Borough of Limavady.
We were founded in 1987 by a group of local people concerned at the high levels of unemployment in the area; some of those founder members are still with us today! The emphasis in these early days was on creating job opportunities.

Employment
We believe that we have successfully addressed our brief; we currently employ 60 people delivering an innovative range of community projects throughout the borough and beyond. We are one of the largest community groups in N.Ireland and our success is testament to the commitment and passion that we have for our work.
Social Economy
These days we try to depend less and less on pure funding and look toward sustainable service delivery. We have excellent partnerships with our local Council and Health Authority which sees us deliver projects under contract. We run a debt management and counselling service for the whole Province in partnership with a major UK Charity.
Some projects will always depend on funding but we increasingly try to 'fund ourselves'.
Our acquisition of the former Roe Valley Hospital saw us spend almost £3m refurbishing the complex as a major multifunctional community based facility. We rent the majority of the space to a wide range of tenants and this income contributes to our sustainability.
The complex is regarded as one of the best surviving examples of a Union Workhouse on the Island of Ireland, (tours by request). At least 1,000 people visit the Workhouse Interpretive centre and cafeteria each year, and the facility has potential to be a significant Heritage asset.
Governance
The LCDI portfolio of projects is managed by a Voluntary Management Committee through the General Manager Mr. Damien Corr. The management committee meets bi-monthly throughout the year. The Committee is divided into sub-committees; Finance & General Purposes, The Care Sub-Committee and the Service Sub-Committee. These represent the interests of the various projects, they meet bi-monthly and report back to the main committee. Each project has its own Manager and they attend the Sub-Committee meetings.
The Future
Through the hard work and innovative thinking of our staff and volunteers we will continue to develop new projects and services to meet local needs.
As we say goodbye to the first decade of the 21st Century, we are conscious that our work will take us into the new Causeway and Glens Council which includes Coleraine, Ballymoney and Ballycastle. We have already made links towards the new ‘super council’ and we remain confident that we can roll out our services on a bigger stage.
Every community deserves an LCDI and we will work in partnership with the relevant agencies to ensure that they get one!
